My family is nosy!! You'd think none of them ever had a sekrit life. My bro, sister, SiL, nephew, and their dog are assembled, and have just devoured a meal that I shopped for and prepared over several hours. I am making calls to try to hook up with LJ people. I ask my brother if I can get online, since there is a number I need to retrieve from the internets. He says yes, gets out his laptop, and plays with it for half an hour. Then, getting ready to *find the number for me*:
"So, this number you're looking for, it's at a website?" (says David, as I hover, expecting to be allowed to use the laptop.)
"No, it's in my email."
"Email? Oh. Well. What kind of email?"
"Yahoo. It's on the server."
"Oh, Yahoo. That should be all right."
Sister: "I thought you had gmail."
Me: "I do. I have 3 email addresses."
Everyone: "3 email addresses? Why do you need 3 email addresses? What do you do with them?"
Me: "It's complicated. I use them for different things."
Brother, witheringly: "Oh, it's *complicated*. I see. Well, here." gives laptop, sniffily.
Me: caves, explains about Albus, and that I have another address for fan stuff, and my real one. Brother looks at me strangely and yet is friendly about it. Whatever.
I feel resentful. It was not my choice to tell them. In fact, I have avoided telling my family anything about this. But if I don't have my own computer with me, I must tell all in order to be allowed to check my mail. I will add that neither my father nor my SiL feels the need to interrogate me just because I want to check my email.
Am I being ridiculous? Are those all perfectly normal questions for people who aren't anti-social freaks like myself?
