I came home from vacation this winter to find an article in the Albuquerque Journal pet advice column about a cat that was always begging for food and stealing from the other cats. The vet suggested trying the problem cat on kitten food, which is richer and easier to digest.
I bought a selection of it up at the local Pet Emporium for Shadow and he is a much improved kitty! He still begs, but a lot more politely, and while he scavenges, it's only crumbs. That much I hoped for.
Much to my delight, his digestion improved immediately! No more nasty reek and cat box product the consistency of pumpkin pie makings. So - he WAS having a physical problem with the adult cat food, even though he's something like 4 years old!
On top of that, he's become more cuddly and less skittish, and a whole lot less edgy, though still wary of human beings. When I nap on the couch, he's always part of the kitty pileup unless Dufus Claudius hisses him away.
The poor kitty had feline irritable bowel syndrome! Just a guess; I'm a bookkeeper, not a vet, but what a marvelous improvement!
