Okay, maybe I'm being a party pooper but I personally think the center was a pretty big waste of money. $20 million for Overture Hall and lots of limestone lobby. I mean, right now, there are really only three performing spaces: Overture hall, Promenade hall, and a little tiny stage thingy with bleacher seats. And let me tell you, Promenade is not too impressive. There isn't even a stage and there are very few seats. There are also no wings and there is very little room to put up a set
Once phase two of the project is done, we will have two more theaters, both renovated parts of the old Civic Center. But we had those before so it's not really a gain to the city. It's outrageous. If you want to give $20 million dollars to the city, why don't you give it to something more beneficial than limestone. I mean, Overture hall is very nice (I admit I have yet to see it in real life but anyway...). However nice it is though, it's not $20 million nice.
I'm crushed because I think of how much more theater space the money that was instead spent on massive limestone lobbies could have paid for. I don't even like the big huge limestone lobbies. I liked the old Civic Center ones better. And today I find the employees polishing the railings. How totally out of hand. I mean, paint some wood like the old one had and reduce labor costs. I thought this was a center for performing arts, not architecture. And the architecture is ugly anyway. I mean, the limestone is nice but there's too much white and the lighting is bad. Plus it shouldn't be there in the first place but if you're spending money to beautify the place, then actually make it look nice.
*Growls*
If this is totally incoherent, I'm sorry but it's a RANT!
