but it is apparently made from puree-ing the fleshy white meat.
The liquid in a coconut is actually coconut water.
Who knew? (Not me until I looked it up just now)
The other day, my sister drilled holes in a coconut that her boyfriend had bought, drained the coconut water into a glass and then passed it around for everyone to try. On sniffing it, I noticed that it smelled like an alcoholic beverage but (like an idiot) took a sip anyway to satisfy my curiosity about what it tasted like (even after watching everyone else make faces at it.)
Apparently it had fermented (duh) and was sour, because that's how it tasted. But none of us were sure if that was how it was supposed to taste. (in fact there even seems to be some disagreement online on whether it's supposed to taste sweet or sour)
Then my sister's boyfriend cracked open the coconut and discovered that it had molded on the inside. Lovely. we're all going to die. (either that or we'll all be cured of the plague that's going around)
Also...In looking for information on coconuts and coconut water, I stumbled across
How to make use of a failed coconut cream pie. And thought I'd share that as well.
Happy Friday everyone.
