Chapter One: Untitled
There isn’t really very much you can say about Jonghyun Kim. He’s your average Asian American boy; born in South Korea, raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. He, along with his family moved to the U.S when he was at the early age of four, and they lived in Vegas ever since. Now, as Jonghyun reached his seventeenth year of life, things were finally changing again, much to his own distaste. Jonghyun and his parents were moving to a place in the San Francisco Bay area; a suburb in Fremont, CA. Jonghyun didn’t completely agree with moving, since this meant that he would be leaving his friends and life behind; but he couldn’t find it within himself to object. His father was a hard-working Doctor who had just received a long over-due promotion. A promotion which moved their family more than five hundred miles from the home they’ve lived in for most of Jonghyun’s life. Since both his elder sister and his elder brother were off at college, Jonghyun’s biggest fear was loneliness, but luckily his younger cousin, Taemin, tagged along. Yeah, maybe Taemin was a bit of a party pooper, but it’s better to have him rather than having nobody at all.
The nine hour drive was uncomfortable. Jonghyun groaned as he finally opened his eyes. There was only a few minutes left until they reached their new home. It was about 7am in the morning, and he just couldn’t wait to get out of the car and stretch his legs. Jonghyun groaned, massaging his stiff neck while he observed his cousin comfortably leaning on him, asleep. Realizing that Taemin's sleeping body against his arm limited his own ability to move and change the uncomfortable position that he found himself in, Jonghyun rudely woke the younger boy up.
“We’re in California,” Jonghyun sang, shaking Taemin awake. Taemin squinted his eyes and looked through the window. Big green signs greeted and welcomed them into the state. Taemin stretched and sat up straight. He was missing his parents a lot, but then he reminded himself that he would see them again in a few months. He and his parents decided that it would be best if he moved with Jonghyun’s family right now, since Taemin’s family were about to move to Fremont soon, too. They thought that it would be better for Taemin to start attending his new school at the beginning of the year, considering that the courses in Vegas and the courses in Fremont would probably be a bit different. Living in the heart of Las Vegas’ urban area his whole life, he felt weird about moving into a smaller suburb. Both Taemin and Jonghyun shared the same feeling that they would probably never fit in with small-town people.
“Look at that kid,” Jonghyun chuckled, spying a jolly-looking boy wearing a bright green shirt, who was riding his bike with a stupid smile on his face, “God, what if all the kids at school are like that?”
“I really hope not,” Taemin shivered, “Ooh look at that guy,” Taemin said while pointing at a tall, muscular Asian kid who wore a red tank-top with basket-ball shorts, strutting his stuff on the side walk, “He’s kind of…hot,” Taemin laughed. Yes, Taemin Lee was openly gay. And he was so adorable that his whole family almost didn’t think twice about letting him be happy.
“Please Taemin, not this early,” Jonghyun shook his head. Taemin laughed. He knew how awkward Jonghyun got whenever he talked about people being “hot”.
“We’re almost there,” Jonghyun heard his dad say, tiredly. The car went through a few more turns, before they entered a small neighborhood. The car soon stopped in front of an average, beige two-story house. Everybody exited the car and they all worked on getting their bags inside the house. As Jonghyun and Taemin entered their new home, both boys were surprised the find the house mostly furnished. The house looked ordinary; white walls, wooden frames and wooden floors.
“Ah, isn’t this nice, Jjong?” Jonghyun’s mother smiled, taking a good look at the house.
“It is,” Jonghyun said, pretending to actually like the house, “Um, Taemin and I are just going to look at our rooms,” Jonghyun said, dragging Taemin upstairs. Jonghyun didn’t even look around the random small room he entered when he jumped on the cover-less mattress to stretch.
“Aghhh,” He groaned when he finally relaxed his limbs.
“This is your room?” Taemin asked, innocently looking around.
“I guess. We can pick any room right?”
“But it’s so…small…” Taemin frowned.
“I like it,” Jonghyun said, laying on his back and looking around. The ceiling was white, the walls were light brown and the windows were big. There was a small closet across the foot of the bed and there was just enough space beside the bed for a desk. “This is perfect for me,” Jonghyun claimed, being a man who liked to keep things simple. Taemin just nodded and looked around for his own room. He found a slightly bigger bedroom, with pale yellow walls and smaller windows. The small windows made Taemin especially happy, because small windows were easier to cover and he liked pitch darkness when he slept. His room was just next to Jonghyun’s. Both of them got settled, and so did Jonghyun’s parents. They all rested until the rest of their furniture arrived in the afternoon. They didn’t finish setting up the house until 7pm.
After dinner, both boys went to Jonghyun’s suddenly cluttered (as expected) bedroom. His three guitars were carelessly set up by the door, and his clothes covered the floor. Jonghyun didn’t mind his little mess, because the clutter let him feel that much more at home. Taemin sat on the floor and Jonghyun laid down on the bed. They sat silently for a few minutes, but then Taemin remembered that school year was going to begin in just three days.
“I wonder what the kids at the school will be like,” Taemin suddenly thought out loud, “I hope they’re nice.”
“I’m guessing they’ll all be like those cheerful, preppy pricks at our old school,”
“Do you think they’ll only have one big clique?” Taemin asked.
“I wouldn’t be surprised. They probably all grew up together as ‘best friends forever’,”
“You’re so stereotypical,”
“What? I’m just trying to contemplate what we should expect, and I’m just saying; I expect a bunch of socially deprived naïve little good-girls and boys who probably go shopping at Target for fun,”
“That’s so mean,” Taemin laughed, “You’re judging them before you even meet them,”
“Well, what do you expect?”
“Well I kind of just expect normal people…and what you said about Target…” Taemin replied honestly, with a small chuckle.
“I guess we’ll find out soon enough,” Jognhyun shrugged. He honestly didn't really care much about the students, because he wasn't planning or expecting to make any good friends at his new school. Maybe he'd find a few people he could pass lunch times and weekends with, but he didn't expect any more than that. The only thing plan in his mind was returning to Las Vegas as soon as he graduates. He hon

A/N: This was the original prologue, but then I decided that it really didn’t deserve to be a prologue. I apologize for this chapter being so dull and descriptive, by the ways. I tried to practice pacing myself, but then I guess my writing became too slow. I also didn’t mean to sound stereotypical when I described Jonghyun’s idea of small-town kids. I just literally described the kids in my grade-Except we don’t shop at Target for fun. We shop at Wall Mart. |:
