I have a garden.
It's small, but then again, so is my apartment patio. I have two hanging baskets, one with purple petunias and the other a bouganvillia that's spilling over its basket and hooking onto my patio fence. There's a large hydrangea in a bright blue pot in the corner that's about to start blooming. I can almost see the very first hints of blue flowers show from the tightly curled up buds. There's a low wall of yellow, bright pink, purple, and gold from the pots in the opposite corner. I have a rose bush that will give off the most beautiful peachy-orange flowers pretty soon in a large container to the side. I plan on buying a chair and side table to put right there as a reading nook later on. There is a tomato plant on the last corner that has tons of flowers and even the tinest of tomatoes already growing on it. Birds have been flocking to the feeder I hung out and I can hear the soft sound of my windchimes from my living room.
I have a three tiered planter right outside my door. The top has ivy, lavender and rosemary (for keeping bad spirits out), a spill of red flowers takes over the second layer (for attracting good luck), and the last is full of creeping yellow and purple (to welcome visitors) ground cover.
I spent the entire day shopping for plants yesterday and about three hours this morning with my hands in potting soil. While I haven't really been stressed out at work recently, planting everything and enjoying a quiet morning feels like something I needed to do a long time ago.
I have a few strawberry plants that still need to go into their pot, but that can wait until later today when it cools down a bit.
And I feel like the last person that's discovered this, but I found out that I can stream Netflix onto my xBox, so I've been watching Season One of Dexter for the past week. WHERE HAS THIS SHOW BEEN ALL MY LIFE? *loves* Ths completely makes up for the fact that I don't have cable yet. (though that's probably going to change pretty soon, we're supposed to have a NatGeo Jousting Show watching party and I have the biggest TV out of our circle of friends to see it on.)
So yeah, spending a quiet weekend at the apartment, eating a PB&J while watching the birds perch on my fence. Today is a good day.
And now, a meme. Swiped from

The last book you acquired, and how (begged, bought, borrowed?)
Borrowed from the library: a huge stack of books, including Teach Yourself Visually: Knitting.
I'm determined to learn how to use circular knitting needles so I can knit a Jayne hat. I have the yarn for it, just gotta find a pattern.
Your current read, your last read and the book you’ll read next.
Current: Chocolat, by Joanne Harris
Last read: Wild Ride, by Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer
Next read: For a Few Demons More, by Kim Harrison
What author do you own the most books by and why?
Jennifer Crusie. Her characters are funny, the plot gets twisted, and the main characters always get a happy ending. Everyone needs a lighthearted read every once and a while.
Do you own multiple copies of any book?
The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien. Out of all the comfort reads I have, this one is the one I turn to when I'm feeling under the weather or in need of a good nostalgia trip. Ths is the book that as a kid, I always wanted just one more chapter read to me before bedtime, especially since Dad would do this awesome gravelly sounding Smaug voice or how I had a love/hate relationship with the chapter where we meet Gollum because Mom had a way of hissing Gollum's dialogue that had me hinding under the covers where it was dark and I could picture what was going on in that chapter even more clearly. I own two paperback copies, one that's the original book that was read to me and another that I read from that I'll probably have to replace sometime soon because the spine is starting to crack.
