AnimeDetour officially started around 11AM this morning. However, my sisters and I didn't get there till noon. We picked up our badges, which took about twenty minutes (which consisted of us attempting to figure out where the location of this was as there were no signs whatsoever leading us in the right direction). I became quite frustrated at the fact that there were no signs or details as to where the hell the damn registrations and badge pickup was. Perhaps it was written in the forums somewhere, but not everyone reads the forum, so signs in the hotel would've been super nice. I met my old pal Brian (from high school) who directed me in the right direction.
After getting our badges, my sisters and I headed out again. We were meeting up with my older sister for lunch. An hour and about $80 later, we left Chili's and headed back to the con (after dropping my older sister off at work again, of course). There was still two more hours before we'd meet up with
ebonyscythe, so we had to figure out what we wanted to do.
Sadly, none of the panels seemed of much interest to any of us, so we ended up walking around the Artist Alley for a short while.
sennel ended up using $30 straight away on an Akuroku and KHR fanart. It's kind of funny, considering she kept saying she wanted to use her money well throughout all three days. Haha.
After Artist Alley, we spent about thirty minutes sitting outside along the side of the hotel. The air flow circulation in the hotel was so bad, everywhere was stuffy and everyone's BO was spouting out everywhere. Ugh. It was unbearable. So, we sat around outside to get some fresh air. We then headed to the DQ at the end of the parking lot because they had a special on blizzards. ♥
Finally, we met up with
ebonyscythe and her little sister around 4PM. Unfortunately, none of the panels were of any interest to us...that is, until about 8:30PM. So, we stalked around a bunch of cosplayers for pretty pictures! ♥ You'll have to excuse the horrible quality of the images. Apparently my sister's camera is having issues of some sort (or as everything was taken indoors, the lighting was bad, or something).
Anna Kyoyama (Shaman King) and Jesus! Yes, JESUS! LMAO. ♥ Photo by
ebonyscythe Kallen, Zero and Suzaku (Code Geass). Yes, Kallen's face is blurred out and I'm not sure how that happened... Photo by
sennel A Dead Akuma (D.Gray-Man). ♥ Seriously, probably my favorite cosplay at the con. It was epic. People kept asking him who/what he was and where. LOL. Photo by
sennel Cloud, Sephiroth and a Moogle (FFVII). Yeah, Sephiroth's hair is all wrong. xD Photo by
sennel Gir (Invader Zim). Super cute. He had Gir's voice and everything too. Hahaha. Photo by
sennel Guilemon (Digimon). EPIC. Takato was nearby, but didn't jump into the picture until later. ~___~ Didn't get it though. Photo by
ebonyscythe Death the Kid and Crona (Soul Eater). Man, Crona's face expression is perfect!! Photo by
sennel Lightning (FFXIII). She's so pretty! It's too bad the image sucks. Photo by
sennel TYL!Yamamoto, TYL!Ryohei, Gokudera, Lambo and 15YR Lambo (KHR). Seriously, my sister stalked them for about an hour before she finally got the courage to ask for a picture. xD Photo by
sennel TYL!Yamamoto and TYL!Ryohei (KHR). This was taken to satisfy my sister's inner fangirl of YamaRyo being "best buds". She was about to just burst from excitement at how happy the Yama-cosplayer was to take the photo. LOL. Photo by
sennel Bel, Squalo, Hibari and Gokudera (KHR). WHERE'S YOUR XANXUS SQUALO?!! =O Photo by
sennel That's
sennel and her friend dressed up as Agito (Air Gear). Lol. Photo by N (or bondiess on dA).
Tobi (Naruto). Lol. We were on the upper level and my sisters decided to sneak a picture of Tobi down below. Photo by
sennel Yuna and Lulu (FFX). So pretty. *___* Photo by
sennel We saw Gintoki (Gintama) in the Artist Alley, but
sennel couldn't work up the courage to ask for a picture and by the time she finally got used to asking for pictures, Gintoki was gone. =O So was Maka (Soul Eater). We later came across a different Maka though, who had Stein, Soul and Justin Law with her. LOL. Her Soul was taking pictures of Seto Kaiba from YGO. It was so awesome.
My sister also wasted a bunch of money (another $50) on figurines and keychains in the Dealer's Room while
ebonyscythe and I walked around elsewhere. She got herself a Katsura, Elizabeth, Hijikata and Okita (Gintama) keychain along with Squalo (KHR). ♥
Anyway, at 8:30PM, my sisters were planning to attend the Final Fantasy panel whilst
ebonyscythe, her sister and myself were going to attend the WTF Contest. Unfortunately, the lack of signs made it impossible to figure out where the Final Fantasy panel was (or where the entrance to it was) and the WTF Contest's line was simply outrageous (plus with that many people and no windows and closed doors, I would've died). So, we all headed to the Voices For panel instead. Christopher Ayres, Jan Scott-Frazier and a bunch of other people were there talking about their Voices For organization. It got a bit boring after about fifteen minutes (they just kept repeating themselves and laughing at their own seriously not funny jokes and then the music they played was horrifyingly deafening) so we left.
At 10PM, I went to the yaoi panel. Unfortunately, I was late because of the lack of signs giving proper direction. To be quite honest, I was utterly disappointed with this panel. It was the only panel I had been really looking forward to at this convention and I was just...completely unsatisfied. The panelists would ask a question, pick a guest to answer and then cut the person off before he or she could finish answering. Then, after a guest would ask a question and the panelists started answering, other guests would cut them off by randomly shouting out questions. And, when one of the panelists had her husband come up to share a story, she kept interrupting him! What the hell? Let the people finish their freaking train of thought and stories without your stupid interruptions and randomly useless interjections!! Then, this one girl up in the front kept jumping up and out of her seat, squealing and squawking like she was going to die if she didn't jump up and fangirl insanely every time they said "buttsex." I seriously would've preferred it if they'd just tell her to settle down and STFU for at least five minutes. She pretended to 'scratch' them (or whatever it's technically called) because they (the panelists) said they weren't supports of shota or incest. Who the heck cares what the panelists support? Not everyone in there supports it anyway (I sure don't) so lay off the panelists. It's fangirls like her that makes me hate yaoi fangirls. Why can't they all be sensible and intelligent without the pawing, scratching and whatnot? And then, a bunch of them started shouting for one male volunteer to strip and "take off" his pants (WTF?) so that he could get the "free porn" they were distributing. Plus, they only took male volunteers too. Sexist much? And then they cheered hysterically when one guest asked if the male panelist would let himself get "spanked" by the hammer (again...thankfully I missed it the first time) for "everyone else in the crowd." I suppose people find it humorous and whatnot, but I was simply appalled by it. Whether or not the male panelist was gay, to allow himself to be "spanked" was just...ugh. And knowing that the room went insane when the panelists brought up PWP just made me want to cringe. I'm sorry but porn without plot (or plot what plot) is just...it's good sometimes but only on rare occasions. If I wanted to read PWP all the time, I'd simply pick up hentai. I guess I'm simply not as big of a yaoi fan as I thought I was. And, considering how this panel disappointed me so, I'm quite sad (and am now questioning my inner fangirl). ;____;
There was a Yaoi Afterglow panel between 11PM to 12AM, but as the side doors of the hotel locks at midnight and I wasn't staying at the hotel, I left. All in all, it was more enjoyable than I had anticipated (although most of the joy and excitement came from stalking cosplayers and taking their pictures than the actual con and panels themselves). However, I'm probably not going to stay very long the second day (I'll probably be here and there and leave and come back again later) and then not go at all the third day. I've got church on Sundays after all and by the time church is over, the convention's basically over too (and it's too far from the convention to church, so going early to the con is pointless too). So, day two recap tomorrow (or later today...whenever I get around to it)!
