Actor and director Lionel Jeffries dies, aged 83, BBC News 19th Feb 2010

Only just heard this on Last Word, it amazes me how quickly they can put an obit together. I can but hope this means we'll get a retrospective of some of his films.

Took the garklet to see the Princess and the Frog yesterday (he'd been noticing the posters on the buses). It's not the frst time he's seen stuff on the big screen as Harbour Lights ran a series of In the Night Garden screenings in the autumn but it was the first time he'd sat through a whole feature film.

Anthony Minghella dies at 54

I am genuinely shocked.

As Bedford, Anu, his better half, and her parents were visiting this lucnhtime the wind picked, the sky darkened and then the heavens opened. Thank goodness!

Despite the thunder and lightening, the air is that much fresher but at least the garden's had a good soaking.

Kenneth Williams' night on BBC4 is rather fun. I just wish poor old Kenny hadn't had such a rough private life, although I had had no idea he was friends with Joe Orton: not two people you'd tend to think of together.

Have spent most of the day (when not on enquiry desk duty, or looking through old Chemistry books, reading the judgement in the Tammy Kitzmiller, et al. v. Dover Area School District (i.e. the 'can Intelligent Design be taught in schools' case). Very fun reading.
