Update and some reccommendations

Mar 02, 2006 16:31

Discovered a rather nice pub in brisk walking distance from home (long enough to feel virutous enough to ahve a pint, far enough not to do it too often!) courtesy of a work colleague who persuaded me to go out last night. So nmg and I had a pleasant drink with her and her other half. The rest of the week, when not doing late duty, we've been variously making shelves, putting up shelves (Nick for most of that, I'm merely the labourer he employs to help from time to time) or sewing curtains (that'd be me).

Tonight we should mange to finish off the bathroom (hurrah!) and tidy and clean downsairs which has become a bit of a pigsty. I also discovered yesterday why my hoovering was not as sucesful as I thought it ought to be: upon opening henry I got sprayed with dust from a literally full to bursting bag. A new bag later, and henry is a changed hoover. All this preparation is in anticipation of the in-laws visiting our Southampton home for the first time this weekend. They arrive Saturday lunchtime and leave sometime on Sunday.

Anyway, one to more pleasant topics than housework.

Sir Menzies is the new Lib Dem leader. Must say, am not too surprised. Not particularly thrilled either but then I think the whole leadership debalce has turned me off the LIb Dems (but not enough to stop voting for their policies).

In case any of you haven't heard, Radio 4 are running a special News Quiz tribute to Linda Smith this Friday at 6.30 and again Saturday lunchtime. (will have to listen on Friday due to in-laws coming on the Saturday). And the Gruniad had a two page spread on the lass herself today (link to non-Guardian site if you are no registered).

If any of the UK-ers are at home tonight, can I urge you to watch Downfall on Channel 4 at 9pm. I saw it on More4 before Christmas and thought it was a fascinating but hard-watching peice of cinema. I would definitely urge any of you who can, to watch it.

And finally, the Shrub. I woke this morning to the report on today that video had been found of aides telling the president that New Orleans was in danger, the levees were inadequate and the facilties in the Superbowl not sufficient. Hoist on his own petard. It made me smile.
