c'est longtemps que je updated...
i took my grade three harmony exam this morning. boojah! quite happy about that. i've been doing harmony (which, if you don't know much about it, is just the next step in piano Theory) for about a year and half, with only the last few months dedicated solely to harmony. i can't even believe it...it hasn't really sunk in yet that i'm actually done this. i mean, December 8th..i've had to minorly bust my butt over this musical endevour in order to be ready for today, and now it's done. congradulations holly. woot woot. so how did i do? meh. i don't know. meh is all i can really say about it, other than if i were to engage in an explaination of how my limited grasp on the concept of pivot chords and melodic configuration decided to fail me today. but meh. so now ahead of me lies a choice. i have th option of taking Grade Three History as well, and officially completing all my grade nine requirements. i have a great deal of uncertainty on this decision. If i were to choose to take this course, I will be able to receive my Grade Nine Certificate. This means i will be able to officially go on to grade 10. I have no intention of going on to grade 10. so why would i take it? well appearantly it will earn me an extra credit, although i secretly think i'm already going to have enough of those, but i am told it will earn me my grade9 certificate, so basically i'll look great on paper. Megan told me that unless i plan to be a full-time hardcore piano teacher (heck no) or become a full-time concert pianist (nope), then i really don't need to go much further in the Royal Conservatory music school. Not to mention, aside from the fact that it might not advantage me greatly in my music future to get my History, i am expecting a heavy acedemic semester, and even so, i know school is supposed to come first anyways, and i was barely able to do Harmony this year. History is pretty well all memorisation of the great musicians of our past, which could actually be interesting, but stressful. So...why then would i bother taking History? well RCM seems to have a nice little system worked out where if i earn part of my grade 9 certificate, but then don't earn the rest of it for a set amount of time, (five years i think) it "expires". So if i dropped it now, but decided to take up the History later, i might have to do all of my grade nine stuff all over again---Harmony, History, and my exam. never again. never ever ever do i want to take one of those horrible exams ever again. but it all really depends if i want music to be my primary career in life, or if i want it to just be on the side or not.. but if i don't do history---possibilities loom.
so now, she asks, what to do, que faire. agh.
other than that... there i have little to say. school is probly one of the most dominant factoids in my life right now.... look up the word factoid to see what i mean and it will give you some food for thought concerning how pointless school can sometimes / most of the time be according to my perception. ah well.
more coming....
