I haven't slept well the past two nights.
You know how sometimes something sticks in your craw and you just can't let it go for a while? That's what happened Thursday, and in trying to get it out of my system I stayed up later than normal. Then, I woke up at 2:30 AM and for reasons unknown managed to hit the eject button on my TV remote, ejecting the tape that's in there. I'm thinking I went for my glasses and got that instead. Here's the thing: My TV *has* to have a tape in its attached VCR in order to work. (It's old and wasn't terribly expensive, and now it's finicky like that.) I always set the wake-up timer so I can listen/watch the news in the morning. Without a tape in, the TV will turn on, but after about five seconds will make this horrible noise and turn back off. Not acceptable. So there I am, 2:30 in the morning, trying to get the tape to go in, and it won't, and I'm tired and frustrated and the bird is hissing at me because it's still clearly nighttime yet I have the light on and it's messing with her beauty sleep.
Sigh.
Eventually I get the tape out and put it in correctly--I have no idea what was going on, but whatever. My TV still works. That's all that matters.
So then last night, since I didn't sleep well the previous night, I fall asleep relatively early, but then I wake up around 1:15 to hear...something. Oh God, it's not mice in my room, is it? I'm hearing what sounds like paper rustling, like maybe the bird is in her crabby corner or something. I put on my glasses and grab a flashlight and shine it near her cage--and see nothing. The bird is atop the cage, not near paper. At least nothing was there, because I totally would have screamed, and yet...WTH. I had a hard time falling asleep after that, and kept hearing noises without any idea of where they were coming from (I hear wild bird noises all the time from outside, but never at that time of night), and I didn't want to put the flashlight back on because if you thought Kirby was mad when I put the regular light on, you haven't seen her in a flashlight's spotlight.
So I'm tired. And creeped out. And it doesn't help that Halloween is Monday, though it's certainly setting the proper tone around here.
