Red, white, and motorcycle blues

I can't believe I forgot this about Memorial Day.

Dad decided to make red, white, and blue salad, since we managed to find mint at the market (other ingredients are watermelon, feta, and blueberries). While he was downstairs making dinner, I was up in my room, and all of a sudden I thought I smelled ozone. Weird. I went sniffing around my room and didn't find the culprit, but when I went downstairs it seemed like some of the salad ingredients were what I was smelling, so I thought nothing more of it.

A little bit later, dad went out to the garage, but as soon as he opened the door to the laundry room he went, something smells odd; I was still doing laundry so I ran and opened the dryer just in case there was a problem. No, actually, we discovered the problem was his motorcycle's battery. Dad had gone out to start the bike but instead had to determine if the battery was still okay. Apparently so, since he took the bike to work today. The smell was not pleasant, though I don't think it was what I was smelling up in my room, and at least it dissipated fairly quickly. The salad and laundry were fine, by the way.

LJ ate my first ending to this. The site's been persnickety today.
