Kirby's cage got cleaned on Tuesday. It's needed it--it always needs it--and finally the weather cooperated enough for me to drag the cage outside and hose it down. I even brought out the little cage, too, which was a good thing; while I can clean that in the bathtub, it still needed a cleaning, and I got a bonus out of it being there. It was windy, gusty, and I was able to prop up certain things like the seed shields inside the little cage so that they wouldn't blow away but they'd still dry off outside. That was really helpful.
Kirby stayed in the kitchen while I did this, but that's not to say I had no critter interaction. Chippy made a couple of appearances, which was highly amusing. He got within several feet of me on occasion! Aren't you supposed to be afraid of me, little guy? The first time, he wasn't sure what to do and would dart toward the deck, then toward the shed, back and forth a few times; the second time, he hung around the shed and just watched me curiously. I know I sprayed him with the hose a couple times.
It's nice having a clean big cage, but of course it didn't stay that way for long, but that's okay. I can always take it outside in the fall, too. I had another reason for wanting to clean the little cage; it's probably time to take Kirby back to the vet. I don't think she's dying or anything, but I can tell she's uncomfortable and unhappy at times, in part owing to her bad eye, and I wonder if there's something that can be done to make her happy and healthier. I've stopped giving her her meds; she's out of one, and I think the other's expired and I worry that I'll do more harm than good if I keep giving it to her. In general, she's the same old bird, at least, but I want her to stay that way. The weather being better helps, but she's probably due for a check-up. I did put her in her little cage this morning and brought her outside while I watered flowers; the world seems to amaze her. Plus, you know, there's other birds to talk to, even if we don't see them.
