Walking with mom

We knew it was going to be beautiful today, so mom mentioned something about going for a walk. The thing about mom is that a lot of the time she can't just walk for walking's sake. We went to the post office first so she could drop off her mail, and then we ended up going to the former Dairy Queen. Remember, she's on Weight Watchers, so any exercise is good...except when it's negated by the Diet Coke float she had. Good job. She hasn't figured out that she doesn't *have* to have a treat while she's walking, but she wanted to check out what happened to the place since they lost their franchise. It's good that they're still open. It's also down the street from the high school, and holy cow. This is so not the high school I attended. It may be under there somewhere, but you can't even see it anymore. The most recent construction project is still ongoing, but it's coming along. It's just...weird. Yeah, okay, nearly a decade and a half have passed since I graduated, but still. My grade school has barely changed in that time; too bad my high school couldn't have been like that.

Meanwhile, for years my mother has pestered me about painting my room. It has never been painted since we moved here. I'm not going to lie: It needs it. So, this morning, when mom mentioned something about painting the room, I did not tell her no. So now she's pestering me about colors. I've thought about a pale green shade, something calming, but nothing is anywhere near settled. She just wants me to stay busy this summer, and I'm not about to disagree, especially if this is something that will end up benefiting the house.
