If I'm posting when I should be recording, that means something not good happened. Sigh.
So, I went to work; both DW and the manager were there. The weather wasn't bad on the way to work, though a bunch of local school districts did switch to e-learning. DW did end up going on several client visits; the rest were postponed until at least tomorrow. The snow was chasing him on the way back, though, and it was when he pulled up that I could see flakes flying in the air.
By 3 o'clock it was definitely snowing and sticking. This was the time I was supposed to hear about band, so I checked my phone, and there were a couple emails from Dr. K. The first was about quarter to one, asking for input on everyone's feelings about the evening, in part to see how people felt about delaying the start by 30 minutes. The next email was around 2:30, where enough people had responded to say they were still in that he said, okay, we'll start at 6:30, we'll cut the slow, pretty piece and move it 'til the next recording session if it doesn't turn out well at the concert, and we'll still end at 9. I ended up texting him--I wasn't sure if he was expecting everyone to reply--and said I was glad we'd attempt the recording session. I didn't wait for his reply and I then went back to work for another hour and a half.
In that timeframe, the weather continued to get worse. We only had two room renters show up, and each only met with one client. For one, this was on purpose as it was the client's first meeting and then they'd be out of town for a few weeks, so they didn't want to wait to get started. All of her other clients canceled and she was okay with that. For the other, this is the room renter who is completely oblivious to everything and, as of last night, had no idea that the weather was predicted to be terrible. She'd fully anticipated meeting with both of her clients. The earlier one made it; the later one canceled. This meant we were able to close at 5 PM.
About quarter to 5, with everyone else gone--both room renters had left by then, the manager had to leave early to get home for something, and DW left early to run an errand since the boss was gone--I checked my phone and found a couple texts from Dr. K. He'd replied shortly after I'd texted him earlier. It was while I was responding to him that I saw I also had an email...saying band was canceled. That had been at 4:20 PM. He texted back in kind, saying too many people were starting to get on the roads and realizing how bad they were. Rats. Great--we're going into the concert down a rehearsal. Oh well; what can you do? He didn't want to put us in harm's way which I fully understand and appreciate, and we'll have a make-up recording session a month from now, conveniently also on the 17th. Ooh, St. Patrick's Day.
The snow was already several inches deep when I left. My trunk had frozen shut so I couldn't get at my snowbrush and got to break into mom's Snow Joe travel shovel bag as that's been in my backseat. There's a snow broom in there and that cleared off my car lickety-split. It was middle of the road snow, not too heavy, though it did blow around a bit in the wind. The roads were unpleasant but there wasn't a ton of traffic, and we were all surprised that I made it home in 50 minutes. In fact, dad was expecting my trip to take much longer and he didn't start clearing the driveway right away; mom requested I let her know when I was leaving. They were glad to have me home at a decent hour, especially since I worked much later than expected yesterday. Believe me, it certainly wasn't my plan. So, yeah, at least I'm home safe and warm.
