Seventeenth in a series!
I am breaking my streak; I do not have new content to post this year. Funny, because I had a *bunch* of stuff in my head last year; I just never wrote it down. Sucks to be me. And, nothing came to me in the past couple days, so I found myself scrounging through my old writings just now, trying to dig up something decent that I haven't already posted. I have come to a conclusion: I'm a really terrible writer. Just...schlocky. I mean, okay, a lot of this stuff is roughly 20 years old, so it's a lot simpler than it could be. Not that I've gotten that much better. I just recognize that I'm terrible, whereas before, I thought it was good. Sigh.
I did find something that I'm not super embarrassed to have posted, at least, so that's what you're getting this year. It's from right after I graduated high school, dated July 9, 1995. It's sort of my take on a song from a Disney movie. See if you can guess which one. I'll put it at the end.
Spirit of the Night
A simple breeze blew
While the free birds flew
As I watched from my window
One night
The sky changed colors
As the sun went down
And the moon began to shine
With the spirit of the night
The magic of the night
The spirit of the night
The world takes on a different shape
With the spirit of the night
A tree nodded gently
In that crazy little wind
As the sky went from purple
To pink
And the clouds stretched from one end
Of the horizon to the other
They matched the pretty flowers
Moving with the spirit of the night
The magic of the night
The spirit of the night
The world takes on a different shape
With the spirit of the night
Twilight began fading
As the stars began to play
Creating their own puzzles
And shapes
The wind kept blowing
Carrying the scent of the night
It came on through my window
With the spirit of the night
The magic of the night
The spirit of the night
The world take on a different shape
With the spirit of the night
The trees kept swaying
While the birds flew around
Possessed with the spirit
The spirit of the night
The magic of the night
The spirit of the night
The world takes on a different shape
With the spirit of the night

There absolutely is music that goes along with this, particularly the chorus. If I'd had my druthers, I probably would have reworked this over the years; it has its awkward sections. Did you figure out the Disney movie? It's Pocahontas. It's like this was my version of "Colors of the Wind." I'm such a copycat.
