There are some bizarre things that come up on 23andMe.
I *should* pull up the webpage to go into this further, but I worked today and didn’t sleep well, so I’m tired. (And, well, there’s more to that, but I’d rather go over it tomorrow. It’s very exciting, I can tell you that.) Here is what my DNA told 23andMe:
-I am more likely to dislike cilantro. (True)
-I am more likely to have bunions. (True)
-I am less likely to have a cleft chin. (False. Grandma always thought I reminded her of Kirk Douglas. You know, people with cleft chins are famous! she’d say. So far, neither dad nor I have achieved fame or fortune.)
-I am less likely to have fallen arches. (False. I was born with foot problems-mine naturally turn in and I had to wear special shoes as a baby-and we discovered my fallen arches around the fourth grade.)
-I am more likely to have blue or green eyes. (Trick question. My eyes tend more toward green and gray-my driver’s license says green-but technically they’re hazel. I had to choose blue/green or brown/hazel when I read that report. Really? No option for hazel green? But yeah, both of my parents have blue-gray eyes, so it’s weird that mine have a burnt caramel center.)
-My musculature is similar to that of elite athletes. (??? Because I’m so athletic? But I do well with yoga and was a rubber band as a child.)
I didn’t read through all of them, but some of it is super amusing because it’s so random. There may even be more results to find out because it seems like there are more surveys to take. I like how there’s different info from 23andMe and Ancestry, as well as that I have found at least one cousin there that I didn’t have already, and I’m able to flesh out my tree on Ancestry just a little more because of that. I’m such a genealogy nerd. But I can also share my info with grandma on our call tomorrow. She’ll be happy to know her one nephew really is her nephew, heh.
