Grate entertainment

It's been a bit chilly in the house in the past few days. The little bird has been shivering a bit and also puffing himself up, so I decided to check on the thermostat. It was set to 66F. That's a tad chilly. I turned it up to 67F and waited for the heat to kick on.

I was also worried about Kirby because it appears he has a slight cold. Yes, birds get sick, too. (No, he does not have the bird flu.) One of his little nostrils is blocked up and he's breathing out of the sides of his beak. It's kind of cute to watch the feathers on either side of his mouth suck in when he breathes. Anyway, after I turned on the heat I walked into the computer room. I happened to have Kirby with me, and I figured since it had been a while since he had seen "the bird" (his reflection in a mirror), I'd have him entertain himself. We have this mirrored table top that is leaning against the far wall in this room, and it's right by the vent--he could look at himself and get warm at the same time.

I was actually surprised by how much he enjoyed it. I thought the grate would be too warm for his feet, but he stood there for quite some time. I guess it would be the equivalent of standing on a beach and feeling a warm breeze caress your face. He closed his eyes and enjoyed it. The feathers on his crest blew back and forth. All he needed was sand and water.
