Mom's car currently is at the body shop, the same one I went to for my car. She decided to go ahead with the hail-caused dent work and we dropped it off this morning. Yes, all of us. She couldn't get a rental there on a Saturday, so dad and I went to the shop so she could drop it off, then took her to the car rental place all the way in Aurora, at which time she took her temporary ride (a Santa Fe) to do her errands, and dad and I went off to go grocery shopping. According to dad, mom was very complainy about having gotten an SUV, but by the time she got home, she seemed to be okay with it.
One of her errands was to go to the library, where she picked up a couple of Europe guides. Guess I have homework. ;)
Dad has been spending the day assembling the little deck in the corner of the yard. We've taken to calling it his stage, since it looks like someone could perform there. He did build a base for it, so that it is several inches above the drainage rocks. After all these years, we'll no longer have our big puddle in that corner when it rains. Bummer. It was fun watching the ducks swim in there. But it would make a nice reading corner. Grandma liked it when she was here--the wood may not have been in place, but the glider and the plants were.
By the way, the neighbor did finish his little section of fence last week. It looks much better and matches the rest of his fence, with the curve and the alternating pickets, albeit with much newer wood.
Dad is awaiting the next project, the driveway. As we pulled in after shopping this morning I lamented the fact that once the new driveway was in, he'd no longer have to mow the current one. He laughed, but I did notice a small tuft of grass peeking through one section in the middle. It's pretty bad. Anyway, dad got the permit last week or so, and he's waiting to hear when we'll get the go-ahead. He was all freaked out the other day because the paver trucks were in the area and parking across the street from us. Wait a second, you're not here to do our driveway, are you? Turns out they did one around the corner, where there's not much room to stage the trucks. Aha. I actually thought it was someone in the cul-de-sac, but anyway, clearly they do a fair amount of business in the area. In fact, when dad went to get the permit, when he gave the name of the company, the city went, oh, we've got all their stuff on file; you're fine. Sweet. So it'll be nice to have that finished, and then I think the projects will be done for the year.
