State champs for the second time!

My high school's football team won state yesterday--in overtime. This is the second time since 2013 that they've won state, and third time since 2010 that they made it (they were second that time around--but it was the first time they'd ever gone, so it was still really exciting). Considering where they were back when I was in high school, when they were lucky to make it into the playoffs, it's really cool and they've definitely worked on improving their play even at the youth level. I read an article last night that said the kids that played on this year's team had attended the 2013 state game as 8th graders, and they've been playing together for years, and they've worked hard all this time. Congrats to them.

Even better, the kid who caught the game-winning touchdown--again, in overtime--lives around the corner from me. It just so happens that our route back from the grocery store takes us past his house. Dad noticed it first. Good thing Sam's Club is just down the road, because there was a LOT of toilet paper used to cover those trees. :) Also, inexplicably, a piñata. Well, it had red and yellow stripes on it, even though it was a purple bear otherwise. There was even something like "YES STATE!" on the garage, plus a few other things. I was so amused by it I had to walk over to take a few pictures, even though we don't know this family. I stayed across the street and over a bit so perhaps they didn't notice me, and I wasn't at the best angle, but still. It's an awesome accomplishment no matter what, and super cool when you get to be a part of the winning play.
