The days are all messed up

Grandma called us on Sunday, in part to wish mom a happy Mother's Day.

We had to tell her, uh, grandma, Mother's Day is *next* week. …Oh. Well, considering we did Easter a week early this year, and how Mother's Day went for her last year, well, I guess it's not surprising. She had thought May 1st was last Sunday as well, not Monday, in which case it would have been Mother's Day. I told her, there's a reason you haven't gotten a card from me yet! (I didn't tell her part of the reason was because I hadn't actually bought one at that point in time. But no, it wasn't time yet.) It doesn't sound like we'll do anything for it, actually, saving all the good stuff for her birthday. It *is* a big birthday year for her, and this year she can actually go out and celebrate, God willing, so I guess we're waiting until Memorial Day weekend to make plans. I don't know that that will involve anything big, but we'll see.

Mom ended up taking today off. Yesterday was a Red Hat meeting, and it was supposed to be some sort of retirement party, but someone's husband up and died last week and the retirement part of it was postponed until July. Mom hadn't wanted to worry about staying out too late and having to go to work this morning, so she planned the day off, and then the reason for it didn't happen. She still stayed at her meeting for a while, coming home about 9, and she was happy that she didn't have to worry about leaving at a certain time so she could come home and go to bed. Also, the services are this weekend, so even if we had plans with grandma on Saturday, mom now has that to attend. (We'd done Saturday with grandma for years, dating to when I worked on Sundays, and we never really changed it back.)

While we're roughly a third through May, my coworker keeps saying he thinks his calendar is broken, because it's more like March outside. No joke, I wore a sweater to work today and I was still cold. It was chilly in there! So weird, that earlier this spring the temps were above normal and now they're below. I mean, fifty-degree highs this time of year are not cool. Well, okay, they *are* cool in the temperature-related sense, but still. Supposedly we'll hit the 70s tomorrow. Believe it when I see it. And we're even out away from the lake, where we should be warmer, but that's not necessarily the case. Ugh. I just want it to be seasonal. I don't want to feel like I should be wearing gloves when I'm inside a building.
