My dad is seriously frustrated with the house situation. There are the bigger things, like the job that the subcontractors are doing, where he knows they're not doing it properly. Or that he'll have to trim the deck boards he's taken off because the new siding sticks out just a little bit more because it's thicker and has insulation with it. Or that we've barely planted our garden because we knew they'd just trample over everything near the house, but our plants are not doing that well because they're stuck in cups, or else the cups are hindering the few plants that made it into the ground, since they're behind the chicken wire with the actually-planted greenery.
We also have the little things. They've put holes in at least one of our window screens. It might be more than that, because my one window screen is pretty torn up. I just don't recall if it's been like this for a while or not, since it's not a window I open. There's also bits and pieces of stuff in the Japanese maple, and they've been careless about picking up things. One day, there were nails all over the front porch. Really? You know people have to come through here, right?
Last week, while doing the laundry, the laundry room seemed humid, and I could smell the laundry moreso than normal. I asked dad to check it out. My father being my father, he didn't. This week, same thing. I noticed this on the way out to grocery shopping this morning, while mom was doing her own load. I got him to check it out once we got back--and the vent? Was venting into the room. Nice. They had replaced the vents to the outside in the process of doing the siding, but hadn't reconnected the dryer vent. I get that, since they didn't have access to the house. But they also didn't bother to say anything to us about it. This meant the laundry had to stop for a half-hour this morning while dad got back there, cleaned the area, and reattached the vent. It still doesn't seem right but it's better than it was. We'll see what happens next week.
All I know is my father is unhappy enough that he's sort of like, did I make a mistake in doing this? Well, it needed to be done, and there's nothing saying that another contractor wouldn't have done the same things. We'll never know. At least the good news is that he does, in fact, like the siding in and of itself--it's good quality. How it's hung is another story. But he likes the siding.
