Dear readers,
After my last two posts I know I will need to start having a bit more energy. I really just wanted to get them down so I could start my next exciting venture into foods I've never seen let alone pronounce.
I really wanted to go a bit further this weekend and try some fish. I asked my oldest daughter if she wouldn't mind checking around some local fish markets for some monk fish. I really wanted to start getting some of the more unusual things off my list of things to cook, because as I've talked about stepping out of my comfort zone, I'll end up cooking all the things I think I may like and be left with nothing but odd named fish, and clams an muscles.
So I get this message from her telling me that I'm probably going to need to order the monk fish special as she called three fish markets only to find out they don't carry it. I replied to her "well that's a bummer". She says "well that's what you get for wanting to cook that nasty ass looking thing" I immediately start thinking to my self "oh dear, please tell me this isn't another eel thing"
The biggest challenge I'm going to have living in the middle of the desert and not having a ton of money to special order things that aren't common fare is to find the things that I need. I really don't want to Google search a bunch of substitutions I know that the recipes are a guide, but part of this whole idea was to try new things and make discoveries. That is the whole reason for the personal observations, go with the Master first and then learn from there.
So instead of monk fish, this weekend I am making "asparagus veloute`" For those out there who are as cluess as I was this is soup. It sounds just lovely. Along with this I am going to remake the pork tenderloin stroganoff. Since I was in Vegas for the first time my family didn't get to enjoy it, so I think that will really go over well. My little granddaughters will be there and my son will be happy because he this week says to me "you ARE cooking from the book this week, aren't you????"
Okay so I haven't been so motivated... But hey, I did cook an entire turkey dinner last Sunday. I even branched out a bit and put some left over mushrooms in the stuffing. To which I was informed were not 'needed' 'wanted' NOR 'appreciated' Okay so if it isn't broke don't fix it. Sorry James. You know how there was always that one dish that your mom or gramma made that is non negotiable? Well that's my home made stuffing. I deeply apologize in advance to whom ever my son marries. Call me I'll hook you up! Just no mushrooms.
Okay so what exactly is a monk fish and why did she say it was nasty ass looking....
Google....
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
OH MY F`ING GOD
Okay well it isn't hard to see why someone would want to kill it and eat it... Better kill it and eat it before it does you!
*faint*
