I knew this white lady online once, who whenever the discussion turned to racism would inevitably stick her foot in her mouth and then, when called on it, would scream that she has "SEVEN BLACK CHILDREN!" (with her first husband, who was African American obviously). It became such a running gag...that one on your bingo board cracked me right up.

Also..."white man's computer"..."we don't have racism in MY city, thank heavens!"...*snicker* Well done! :D

That was the scariest game of Bingo I've ever played. I've done a fair amount of all of that in the past, which sounds like I'm trying to say I'm all fixed now (which isn't true) but I think I've educated myself enough to see how fucked up it is when white people do that shit. Which isn't to say that I couldn't have put a few dots on squares right now. Even when you win, you still lose with white liberal bingo!

...I can't say that I haven't done/said many of these things in the past, and I know that I occasionally still dip into one or two of them before I can catch myself.

I dunno... Maybe I'm having a little TOO much fun with this, but-- as they say-- "You can't change what you don't acknowledge."

I think you have to acknowledge this stuff, rather than pretend it doesn't happen. The problem comes when people think that their work is done by acknowledging it, which I don't think you or me is (are? grammar is confusing) doing.

At this point, I ALMOST feel that I couldn't stop acknowledging/thinking about race/racism if I wanted to... But that's not true. I'm white, and if I really wanted to, I could allow myself to fall back into old habits/assumptions and/or stop moving forward.

I don't want to, though. I want to keep pushing the boundaries on this, questioning it, etc. Luckily (or unluckily) the sh!t is so deep that I'll never get to the end...
