And BINGO was his name-O!

Okay, folks...

I had to bust out with it. With apologies to blackperson for her original BINGO board, and thanks to zra for the inspiration, and karnythia and lilithcoyote for their help.

WHITE LIBERAL BINGO

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the flist... )

That was the scariest game of Bingo I've ever played. I've done a fair amount of all of that in the past, which sounds like I'm trying to say I'm all fixed now (which isn't true) but I think I've educated myself enough to see how fucked up it is when white people do that shit. Which isn't to say that I couldn't have put a few dots on squares right now. Even when you win, you still lose with white liberal bingo!

...I can't say that I haven't done/said many of these things in the past, and I know that I occasionally still dip into one or two of them before I can catch myself.

I dunno... Maybe I'm having a little TOO much fun with this, but-- as they say-- "You can't change what you don't acknowledge."

True. I totally put this in my memories, btw. I love it.

I think you have to acknowledge this stuff, rather than pretend it doesn't happen. The problem comes when people think that their work is done by acknowledging it, which I don't think you or me is (are? grammar is confusing) doing.

OMG. That would be nice...

"My work here is done..."

LOL.

At this point, I ALMOST feel that I couldn't stop acknowledging/thinking about race/racism if I wanted to... But that's not true. I'm white, and if I really wanted to, I could allow myself to fall back into old habits/assumptions and/or stop moving forward.

I don't want to, though. I want to keep pushing the boundaries on this, questioning it, etc. Luckily (or unluckily) the sh!t is so deep that I'll never get to the end...

I know what you mean. I'm always thinking about race and racism (I feel like this is partially cause I live in Evanston where I feel like it's closer to the surface) and just like with feminist critique, it's getting to the point where I can't watch TV or read the news without just getting massively pissed off. But this is a recent thing, because I used to fall into that trap of ignoring racism and race issues because I can and because I thought that if I pretended it didn't happen, it would go away. I think its a good thing to be pissed off.

Hey I just found this post and wanted to say thanks, I had a good laugh.

as they say-- "You can't change what you don't acknowledge."

That's totally right, I try and keep that in mind when I think or say some out of line things too. Or else other people catch me, and that's great too. Kudos for acknowledgment :)
Gosh that word looks funny..
