So I'm doing the reading for my linguistics class and the first book is really boring. Very dry. I finally finish and move on the the next book, the book the professor wrote, and I can't put it down...until right now because I wanted to post something he said. The book is about Hip Hop Language. He writes:
"We begin with language as power, that is, the view that language is the revolution, a powerful discourse in and of itself. We know that the most powerful people in society tend to control speech and its circulation through mass media. We know, cuz the Wu-Tang Clan's Rza told us, that "words kill as fast as bullets." Words are far more than parts of speech; they're weapons of mass culture to be deployed in the cultural combat that we, invariably, as humans, find ourselves in."
(bold emphasis mine)
I had to pause after reading that...and then I came here to post it. Now I have to finish the reading =]
