Jamie has just taken Boadecia off to the cattery and I need to get off my butt and start packing to head off to Auckland tomorrow morning. The kids are absurdly excited so I'm not sure how I'm going to manage to get them into bed appropriately early tonight - soporifics in the pasta maybe? I have told the universe that we demand glorious weather, on time flights and nothing getting screwed up at all.

Our bathroom renovation starts on March 23. We have the sign on our fence to prove it. We have a written schedule of what is due to happen when and, in theory, it should be substantially finished the day before Easter with just touch-ups the week after. I wouldn't be surprised if it took a lot longer but right now I'm being optimistic and pretend it's all going to happen on time. Really hoping there will be bargain prices on fancy towels in the Easter sales. I'm trying to arrange lots of playdates and activities for the kids so we can do a lot of not-being-at-home.

I've been doing some hand-writing practice at home with Crispin and when he doesn't have to concentrate on anything else he can form perfectly reasonable (by seven-year-old-boy standards) letters.  I had another talk to his teacher and we've decided to try letting Crispin type his stories so he keeps the stress of handwriting and spelling right out to the getting-ideas-down-on-paper thing. Crispin is delighted because he gets to use Ben's laptop and has an excuse to demand a flashdrive of his very own. I supect that what he needs is to get some positive writing experiences under his belt so he can feel safe enough to take a few chances. I can remember struggling with writing and my Father (who is both very bright and unspeakably dexterous) also struggled and we're both doing OK.
