March 22, about 2AM, I'm headed home southbound on a six lane divided 'freeway' (it's about twenty blocks long, short for a freeway) When out of nowhere, a car crosses over the meridian (at about the only place it can be crossed over) from the northbound lane, with not enough time to avoid it we crash. Not quite square head on, I had moved a little to the right, so most of the damage is on the driver fronts of both vehicles, and we end up spinning around a few times. Once everything comes to a stop, my passenger/roommate is capable of getting out (eventually diagnosed with minor wrist crack and some bruising/strains), he's let out of the hospital that night. I am trapped by my right foot and left arm. So I'm screaming at people to get me out, and they are trying to prevent me moving so that i don't cause any more damage to potential neck/spine injuries. Eventually they cut me out and take me the emergency of a hospital ( a different one then the one the rest of the accident victims went to).
Once I'm at the ER they treat me like I'm a drunken asshole as I had admitted to having a few drinks that night (however the cops very quickly determined that I was indeed sober). They said I was refusing to listen to their instructions about not moving when in fact it was my restless leg syndrome that I told them about several times causing me to twitch and move as it was past time for me to have taken my pills. Eventually hey threatened to strap me down if i did not stop moving which I told them to just do then. And they still accused me of moving.
That all said, a few xrays and a CT scan later it was determined my spine and neck were fine, and that I had shattered my right heel bone, dislocated my left elbow as well as broke some bones and tore some tendons in my left arm.
So I'm put on the list for emergency surgery, and placed in bed, I waited about 1 1/2 days to be operated on.
When they were finished there was a metal apparatus on my foot holding what bone they could find in place, and my left arm is in a half cast allowing the pins and plates they put there to heal. Also while before it was my arm that had all the pain, after it was my foot.
I ended up spending about 12 days or so in Hospital, doing some minor rehab so I can learn to walk with one bad foot and one bad arm using a crutch or 'gutter' walker, Also learn how to use a wheel chair with one foot and one hand pushing. I was let out this Thursday past as I was most mobile and they needed a bed. At that point I had been moved three times in the hospital, sometimes to wards that did not know what to do with my dressings.
Some highlights:
Some hot nurses that were very flirty, and very married
Getting on the right pain medicine dosages so I actually no longer hurt
My ex brought my boy every three days or so to see me
Some lower points:
Some of the rooms I was in had horrible patients
The first night nurse I had was such a bitch she actually hid the buzzers
Hospital food
the 8 times it took them to get an IV in me the one time
Being let out with insufficient pain meds
They cut my favourite jacket, hoodie and tshirt off, even though I was willing to make the effort to take them off properly
So how'd the accident happen, nobody really knows, the other driver and passenger are in comas at last check, and multiple witnesses have other passengers getting out of his vehicle and escaping in cabs and such.
The guess is he was showing off, and lost control, or was dared to cross for the two blocks that area would have been.
But for now I'm gimped for the 6-8 weeks till they can take off the metal contraption and my arm is healed enough to actually take the slab off of it.
Then it's physical therapy to learn walking and using my arm again.
Other wise at the moment, I'm ok
