Regulus’ panting breath had the tonal quality of a cheese grater.
He rifled through his father’s glass cabinet, favoring his enflamed left arm as the shattered cabinet door shredded his right. When he found it, the time turner was already caked with dry, hour-old blood.
He whipped around at a sound from the closet, relaxed when he saw himself emerge.
Silently handing over the locket, Regulus gambled the world on his future’s ability to survive his past.
