Hermione's weary eyes caught a faint movement on her left. A Death Eater, trying to escape. She ran, ready to cast him a restraining spell, when his mask slid, revealing a long nose and deep, black eyes. Snape.
She heard him in her head, saying forcefully "Loyal to the Order !" at the same time as Ron appeared next to her. Making up her mind, she hastily cast Snape a Petrificus, and grabbed Ron's arm, dragging him away.
Snape relaxed.
Her wand inclination had been wrong by 30 degrees. The spell would wear off in a minute or two.
