She sat by the window fuming.
Although she would never admit it Walburga was waiting for an owl that would not arrive.
Her rational mind knew this; if it did she was sure it would be a howler. She would prefer that to the silence through.
In a more cheerful setting, Mrs. Potter received gifts from two boys, and the family shared cake and laughter. That night she spared a thought for the woman at the window. It was not charitable.
Regulus walked in that night when dragon’s tears had cooled her anger and gave her a rose.
Walburga smiled.
Title: Alright Really
House: Slytherin
Challenge: Mothers
Character: Petunia
Rating: G
Word Count: 100
Petunia was a good mother. Everyone thought differently. Her sharp ears overheard scathing remarks about Dudley’s character. How she couldn’t control him, how it was practically abuse to overfed him.
She had begun noticing these comments more frequently after Dumbledore’s visit.
The words were making her feel inadequate, even through her sister was gone and her son would only return once more, she was still plagued by an inferiority complex. Lily would forever be better.
Yet when Dudley walked in and presented her with flowers and chocolate and a card saying ‘Happy Mothers Day’ she felt she was doing alright.
Title: Only Sound
House: Slytherin
Challenge: Mothers
Character: Lily Potter
Rating: G
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: The only sound that mattered.
A soft sound caught her attention.
It was amazing that she could hear anything that small over the sound of the house burning and the pounding of her heart.
Her husband was dead, and he was coming but she was focusing on the tiny noise.
For some reason Harry wasn’t frightened.
She wanted to think she drew her strength from him.
But the truth was without her husband she did not want to survive; nevertheless she focused, until all she could hear was that one sweet voice.
When Lilly challenged the Dark Lord all she heard was, ‘love you mummy’
