Neville had thought, going into the lesson, that this might be one of his better days in Potions. The assignment was a largely herbal potion, closely related to some plant tonics he'd brewed with no problem for extra credit in Herbology. (Not that he needed extra credit in Herbology.)
He'd been fine right through the stinging nettles and reconstituted slug slime, though the potion was a little sludgy.
Then he'd added the chopped dandelion root.
His green thumb had taken over.
Everyone stared at the rangy plant in Neville's cauldron.
"A weed," said Snape.
A root cracked through the metal.
