Title: Desperation
Rating: PG
Character(s): Sirius Black, mentions others
Summary: Sometimes, one's worst memories aren't what one saw, but rather what one didn't see.
Author's Notes: Takes place some time before PoA.
Sirius had long ago learned that although the Dementors did not recognise his Animagus form, it did not mean he was free from his worst memories. The standard fare was reliving the day Pettigrew framed him, but sometimes his mind liked dredging up the awful row he got into with his parents, right before he left home or hearing about Regulus joining the Death Eaters. But on particularly horrible days, he remembered his desperate conversation with James and Lily, convincing them to make Peter-Pettigrew, he thought, harshly-the Secret Keeper. He wondered if James and Lily could forgive him.
Title: Saved
Rating: PG
Character(s): Peter Pettigrew, mentions others
Summary: A person cannot be saved until he is offered the chance to be saved.
Peter knew he was past redemption. The things he has done-swearing allegiance to the Dark Lord, spying on the Order, giving up James and Lily, framing Sirius-cannot be forgiven. He knew very well that Sirius and Remus had planned on killing him, and he knew just as well that had he confronted them, at least one, if not both, would have died. He knew that he could not turn tail and go to Dumbledore; even the kind-hearted old man would not trust him. He knew that he could not be saved, but it hurt that no one tried.
