So I thought it was muck itch/rain rot... but now I'm not so sure. it seems to come off really easily and Jeze's bugged by it- but it's going away almost on it's own so soon without any really dramatic hair loss... Or maybe it's just that Calm Coat is a miracle ointment ( Read more... )

Just my opinion, you may want to think about breeding her in March, rather than February. If she takes on the first shot, then the baby would have a due date of February, rather than January. I find that you have more problems with babies born in January, primarily because it's not really natural to have horses born that early in the year. Actually, if you want to be really sure about that, you may want to wait until April or May, so she'd have a March or April due date. They typically tend to have less dystocias than earlier babies.

But it's up to you. Let us know what you end up booking :)

Hope Jezebel's coat clears up soon!

I was thinking more towards breeding her in March too. She usually goes into full blown heat right around late Feb early March.

So far all the mares bred to Three Chips, including maidens (Jeze is a maiden) took on the first shot. Which is somewhat impressive.

his first foal of his first foal crop is due in January. So I'll have a looksie & make a choice. I've got awhile, seeing what my vet says to do also. I know he's a fan of early babies since he shows & likes having the most mature colt or filly in the ring. Blah. I want a happy, healthy baby. That's all.

lol

Thankies! I hope so too. She's miserable & I'm miserable with her being miserable. But this is what you get for living in south Florida.

could the perfect circle be ringworm?

I thought about that, but Mike (barn owner) said no because of all the dried blood. He's thinking flies, possibly bot flies or something like ant bites because of how overly scabby it is. She does of signs of fly bites on her inner thigh areas. Poor girlie. She got hit BAD this fall/summer. I feel horrid.

ooo, well, no unless she's biting it, and making it bleed, you're right....
that chlorhexol is good for that kind of thing, too.

if she were THAT flexible I'd call guiness. I'm gonna grab the Clorhexol & try to spray it with the Chlohexadine that I clean my lizard tanks with.

My horse had something similar and it actually did turn out to be ringworm. He got it from a blanket that the cats somehow got into...

icky, but it's smack dab in the middle of her underbelly all scabby & yucky. Like she got a big round shaped scrape

we [i say we meaning my trainer more than myself] typically have late babys. like... VERY late. Alaster and Merlin both born in late June, Luna in mid June. i'm really not sure why seeing as we who and are at slight disadvantage with size and maturity... but they've all been healthy.

Healthy is good, but I'm looking to stay healthy but have the size & maturity advantage especially since baby's being started out as a weanling in halter classes while mom'll be getting geared up for Western Pleasure again
