the bottom line is: make time.

I just spent an hour on the phone with my sister, who is a wise woman. Here is the advice I want to keep reminding myself of:

1. "The universe is very polite. It will change to meet our expectations. If you expect it to be horrible, it will be, out of courtesy."

2. You're an adult now. Make your life what you want it to be. Eat what you want to eat. Live how you want to live. Turn your life into the best possible growing conditions for your Self.

3. Relationships need room to grow. Yes, our parents were co-dependant. That doesn't mean that's right or healthy.

4. Surround yourself with the kind of people you would like to be.

5. Above all, remember to take time for yourself, to read shakespeare, or write, or play the guitar. Nurture yourself. Make time for yourself.

we talked for an hour, about my life, her life, her daughters, my friends, our family. She wants me to come live with her for awhile, as a sort of finishing school... somewhere I can go to learn how to Live, after i've learned things from Books.

I feel much better now. I wish, for your sakes, that you all had older sisters like mine. There's nothing like a REAL sister. They share your background, your parents, your genes, your insanity. An older sister has done it all before. Every mental battle you've fought, she has too. Even though your external experiences may be vastly different, your internal experiences are remarkably similar.

A big sister is like a player's guide to life.
