'O' Level English Oral

The 'O' Level English Oral exam is finally over!!! But its passing wouldn't be complete without reflecting on my performance.

It was OK. I feel that I didn't fare very well, though - I did better for the exam on a school-scale. But the atmosphere in the exam hall was still as tense as ever. It took me quite a while to regain my calmness but I managed to do so before I walked up the the assistant examiner and took a first look at the passage and the picture.

Reading Aloud was alright. It flowed smoothly, save the mistake in my pauses at one sentence. Picture Discussion was the problem. I totally couldn't make out the meaning/significance of the picture. It was a photo of 4 Malay women who were smiling to the camera and doing nothing else, basically. They were holding markers, and there was a balloon in the middle of all of them, with messages on it. And a very prominent "Global Minds, Global Strides" was written on the balloon.

My imagination didn't take me any further or deeper. And so, I resorted to using my SS knowledge. I talked about Globalisation. How ridiculous was that? My inferences were also very general. Some mentioned that they would release the balloons at the Singapore River, and some even mentioned that the balloons would be displayed during the YOG. But for me, I said that they would place the balloon at the prominent place under the public eye. For the audience to know more about their cause. :S

Conversation was OK. Questions were "What makes you laugh?" and "Do you think it is important for young people to venture abroad?". I don't think I did badly, but I have this tendency to overuse fanciful vocabulary (even in my daily conversations and when I'm blogging). There's a possibility that I may have used the words in a wrong context. But I hope not.

But I'm just glad it's over. Time to look forward to the written papers.
