My grandma told me, of soda bread, that raisins or currants in your bread was a mark that you were well-to-do, and that sultanas (golden raisins) were for really special occasions. She used sultanas whenever she possibly could. I use sultanas in remembrance of her:

Spent the last couple days deep in consumerism, finding finishing touches for the bathroom. I think the urge I've been experiencing to really go over the top with decorating this bathroom has to do with "claiming" it, making it mine. When we moved out here I'd told Sean we could decorate it to his taste as it was essentially his bathroom. Oh Lordy! After a couple hours playing with the sniffy bags my sinuses are clear just about to the roots of my hair. It's like an enema for the nose. Wow!

My brother finally wised up and found a woman his mother and sisters approved of. She has become a dear friend. In fact, if he ever screws this up we're keeping her instead. They are being married in Vegas on September 10.

Since not everyone can be with them in Vegas for the wedding, she came up with a novel way to have everyone there in spirit. ( Read more... )

Wow! Cuddly weekend morning sex, breakfast out, two art fairs, a movie, a nice siesta, a Matt Watroba concert, elephant ears, and lots and lots of balloons! That wasn't our weekend. That was Saturday.
