I have just discovered that people actually use the phrase 'was stood' in real life, as in "I was stood by the door.'
So, so weird. At least that explains why it keeps cropping up in fic.
Still hurts my head, though.
Also someone told me yesterday that Chinese characters each have only one pronunciation per character. As opposed to the four or five per character you have to learn in Japanese. Depending on context and where it is in the word.
