Am I Normal?

When I was in primary school, they introduced the topic of sex ed with a film (actual film on reels, pre-video) titled "Am I Normal?". This was about a boy just entering adolesence, who was wondering if his willie was normal. So he goes off to the zoo and wanders around looking at the genitalia on all of the animals, and at the end of a long day of elephant willies, a wise old zookeeper sits him down and tells him that he sees a lot of willies in his job, and its not the size that's important, its whether they do their job.

Given that I don't have a willie, it wasn't the most helpful introduction to sex ed....

And really, when you consider it, with sex ed like that its a miracle that I'm as normal as I am....

Anyway, the relevance of this story is that last week I went to the really good massage therapist, as opposed to the drop-in chinese massage place. And I told her that I have tight shoulders & lower back, I'm really inflexible, and my right achilles tendon is really short. And as she goes along, she starts saying that my flexibility actually seems pretty good. So i asked "How is my range of movement? Is it in the normal range?"

Apparently my range of movement is generally better than normal for my age! Wow, I was always really inflexible as a kid, and I just assumed that I still was because I am the least flexible in the ballet class. No, I am just inflexible when compared to 16 year old ballet dancers. Compared to the general population of adults in their late thirties, I am pretty good. Better than normal.

And elephant willies never lose their humour....
