i got a call from dani today. she told me about the adventure of unpacking that huge truck. 3 or 4 brave souls from the local congregation came to assist. i heard one of them immediately dropped everything when he discovered my two acoustic guitars in the back of the moving truck. she also told me one determined young man was sick and puking just the day before but he pulled himself out of bed and showed up to help.
i have to say, those oklahomans are so nice i have no idea what to do about it. i kinda wish they would just quit automatically volunteering to help and just go to do what they want. reminds me of eek the cat ("it never hurts to help") or maybe even sora. people that are that nice make me uneasy. what a sad world we live in that makes me say stuff like that.
alyse was craving some sort of vacation so we drove out to the beach today. the only people there were just a few couples that were passing through. we had to share the beach with just seagulls. alyse, being the mermaid that she is, plunged in immediately. i really think she is part fish. i, on the other hand, remained on the dry shore with my jeans rolled up to my knees, snapping photos and getting nailed by the occasional stealth wave.
we had sandwiches and water bottles, meanwhile keeping the seagulls away by pitching driftwood and broken shells at them. after alyse got tired of swimming and lost feeling in her toes, we combed the beach for shells and sand dollars. at some point she strayed away from me and i was poking through a seaweed graveyard when i nearly stumbled into a log... a furry log... a DEAD SEAL! i let out quite a shriek and hustled away. it had no face so you could see its skull all the way up to where its eyebrows used to be. it was gross but fascinating.
then we drove home singing to mariah carey, somehow connecting the meaning of all her songs to either pooping or digestion. for example, her song shake it off sounds like "poop poop, poop poop" and we nearly died when she sang the line "i gotta go somewhere!" you gotta "shake it out!"
