the whole leaving the state thing is now getting to me. usually i don't have time to stop and enjoy life but since the learning center took me off the schedule and dani moved away, i get a moment to savor every now and then. it's interesting how being busy makes the good times in life look like a movie in fast-forward.
alyse called me looking for something to do this evening. so we went to ihop for some late dinner after the book study. i got that cool stuffed french toast that i saw on tv. and, of course, alyse got the item requiring the most gravy and syrup.
alyse has some bizarre tendency to unconsciously harass the staff at restaurants and embarass me at the same time. i'm starting to get over the whole embarrassment thing and just enjoy being part of the alyse spectacle. she does things that just blow me away. i never see them coming. for example, as we were packing up our leftovers tonight, she turns to the waitress and announces loudly, "i want a box for my apple juice too!" it was just a joke but by then the waitress had caught on to alyse's spontaneity and obligingly brought her a styrofoam cup with lid and straw.
after dinner we both weren't ready to go home. of course there was no other place to go at that hour so we made it up. we went up the tallest hill in the territory and sat on the trunk. the stars are bright up there. best of all, no one could hear alyse telling her stories at high volume because we were in a remote area. after about a half hour we heard some animal scurrying through the bushes nearby and decided it was time to head home.
there's a lot to appreciate about nights like that -- that you have someone you can enjoy and you don't even have to be doing a fun activity. that you have a person who likes to be out at night and doesn't care about tomorrow morning either. someone who says something VERY quotable almost every 10 minutes.
i'm going to miss a lot of things.
