You will get an artist! Part of the fun is that an artist will illustrate your fic if you get the rough draft done on time. You have no responsibility to provide one; that's what the mods are here for. :D
Right. Sorry, mods, but I am occasionally forgetful and I want to make sure I don't miss out due to this. I'm going to be moving, starting uni and other rather time-consuming/distracting things going on in Feb. That said I definitely want to do this, I've already got my working plot summary sorted and am part-way into my research.
BUT I might forget to/ not have access to the internet during the definitive sign up period. So can I do this early? Whilst I'm not panicking about how awesome my life has somehow become and how I'm going to be coping with that? I can provide the tentative summary, pairing and author name pretty much now, so it shouldn't be lacking in details, just a bit chronologically enthusiastic. The stuff that's disrupting my Feb shouldn't inhibit my ability to write and complete my fic, in case that worries you.
Anyway, thanks for holding this. It's going to be epic fun. <3
Sure thing! Send your pertinent info (tentative summary, since you have one, pairing, anything else you feel needs saying) to holmesbigbang@gmail.com and we'll remember you in signups. Thanks for your excitement! We're glad to have you on board.
crossovers are permitted, but ONLY if the focus remains on at least one Sherlock Holmes character
Um, would it be acceptable to have Holmes be sort of a not!regeneration of Ten, or is that stretching it a bit far? Because you know technically I would be making him not really Holmes, though only the very end would include him being the Doctor. If that makes any sense at all.
Because I kind of really, really want to write my idea and having a Big Bang to do it for will motivate me much more.
Well, if you're merging the characters, there isn't a problem at all. :D Go for it!
(I'm amused by this, though, because I totally wrote a kink meme fill where Holmes was a regeneration of the Doctor. Great minds, as they say, think alike!)
I guess this is more a question of etiquette (sort of?), but...
I saw in the main info post that you'll have the writers post a tentative summary of their stories around the end of Feb, and then when March rolls around, have the artists take a look and comment-claim which fic they'd like to illustrate.
I was wondering, though, when submitting our summaries, should we include a note or something if we've already got an artist lined up? (I'd hate to have someone get all jazzed about the idea of illustrating my fic concept, and then have to be a bitch and be all, "Uh, thanks, but my sister's already doing it...")
Having thought about this, I'm thinking of having two sign-up posts for artists: one for those who are already attached to a writer, and one for those who aren't. That seems like the fairest way to do it. We'll have a space on your summary submission format to indicate if you do or do not have an artist. :)
Okay, thanks for the clarification, and the quick response!
Oh, another question that just struck me: I know authors are limited to one fic each, but what if an artist would like to illustrate for more than one fic? (After seeing the size of the tentative-signups post, I'd imagine there surely must be a lot more writers out there than artists--then again, maybe not everyone expects to have an artist for their BB.)
I guess the actual number of artists (and stories) remains to be seen, but will there maybe be some sort of system, like once all the artists have a first story, they'll be allowed to pick seconds-ies as long as they're confident they can manage it?
I'm not sure yet; I think it'll depend on the number of authors we get vs. the number of artists we get. What might happen is that we hold off on artist assignments until rough drafts come in so that we know who'll actually complete the challenge (which will probably be fewer than half of the people who sign up, if previous big bangs are anything to go by) and need an artist. If we still don't have enough artists, we may do something like what you suggest.
(Really, we're just trying things and seeing what works at this point.)
