Summary (this chapter): Jamie panics.
Chapter 11: Shadows
After only an hour and a half in Sickbay, Jamie was released, with the stern reprimand to get some rest by McCoy.
She wanted to go to the Bridge, but McCoy had been quick to completely veto that, insisting that rest was more important than letting the crew know that Jamie was (relatively) alright.
With the threat of staying the night in Sickbay instead of being able to sleep in her own bed hanging over her head, Jamie agreed to McCoy's request and went straight from Sickbay to her quarters.
When Spock came in to check on her at the end of alpha shift four hours later, he found her asleep at her desk, where she'd been catching up on paperwork when she'd finally fallen asleep.
The half-Vulcan carefully carried his Captain over to her bed, where he laid her down, removed her boots, and tucked her in. Jamie did not stir, a testament more to how worn out she was than to Spock's gentle touch.
"Computer, lights five percent," Spock ordered as he slipped back out of Jamie's room.
He could talk about his feelings for her tomorrow, when Jamie was more awake.

When she woke up, at first she didn't remember where she was.
Panic seeped into her mind as she realized she was alone in a dark room--had her rescue only been a dream? And what of Parthosian? Was he real?
Jamie's panic set off alarms in the Chief Medical Officer's office, where McCoy had been catching up on the sleep he'd gone without during the search for Jamie. The doctor was soon on his way to his friend's quarters, but Spock got there first.
As the half-Vulcan burst into Jamie's quarters from the bathroom that connected their quarters, the lights in Jamie's room automatically jumped to full brightness, illuminating her room.
"Spock!" Jamie whimpered, still trapped in the half-remembered nightmare that had woken her in the first place.
The half-Vulcan strode quickly over to his Captain's bedside, and--without consciously thinking about what he was doing--pulled Jamie into his arms in a Vulcan-strong embrace.
"I have you, Jamie," he promised her. "No harm will come to you while you are in my arms."
McCoy, who had entered the room unnoticed, stepped back out into the corridor without making a sound, confident that Jamie was in good hands. He also hoped that the half-Vulcan would admit to Jamie his feelings for her in the doctor's absence.
As the panic attack loosened its grip on the Captain, Jamie drifted off back to sleep in her First Officer's arms.
