'Excuse me,' says the nine-year-old girl. 'You're in my light.'

She's doing some graffiti on a particular slab of wall.

Jumping slightly at the voice, Elwood looks down to see a small girl. Sensible enough for any typical school, but he hadn't expected to see any such thing. "Er, sorry." He steps aside, watching her curiously. Graffiti? It recalls life at St. Helen's, and he almost smiles.

"You writing anything in particular?"

'Not really. Just swirls and swirls of burnt-on charcoal,' she replies absently. 'Who're you?'

He's somewhat used to introducing himself to children--leastwise, he's done so in the course of recent visits to the Penguin--and tips his hat slightly. "Elwood Blues, Miss. And yourself?"

Elwood had been contemplating a number of doors, considering just where he might turn next, when he heard and then saw the man. "Not lost," he shrugged, "just looking around."

"All kinds of things, yeah." He looked over the man, trying to recall whether he'd seen him around. If he had, he couldn't remember. Perhaps that was to be expected. "I didn't realize how complex this place is." If he could ever figure it out, so much the better.

Elwood tips his hat. "Good day to you, Ma'am. And I think I'm all right... Sort of wandering around, getting a feel for the place." It really was nice of her to ask, though.

"Oh! Well, don't let me stop you then." Kaylee smiles and backs off a little, unwilling to stop him settling in.

"Hey, no, you're all right," he offers a smile; he hadn't intended to ward her off. After all, it's better to be able to figure out who he'd be dealing with, and she seems to be a nice enough young woman. "Not like I got any time limit here."
