"A girl? Truly? Have you had some of Mello's chocolates then?" Yukimura said, coming up behind Kurama on silent tread, even though he wore geta today. The geta seemed out of place, though, with the rest of his outfit: jeans, a button-up flowered shirt in the best of Hawaiian traditions, and a red belt holding his sword at his side. "Or, is there something I should know?"

Kurama stared at Yukimura, unsure if he should go with his first response of 'don't be such an asshole' or wait until his brain caught up with what his eyes were seeing.

After a moment, he decided. "I've woken up in another world again. A world on the edge of insanity, where birthdays are also halloween, there are floating penises, and you are wearing that shirt." He rubbed his eyes with the heels of his hands. "Or else I've gone crazy. And I don't know who the girl in question is, but at least the birthday balloons got it right. Sort of."

"It's a very nice shirt, isn't it?" Yukimura asked, purposely mistaking what Kurama was saying. He looked sidelong at the balloons then back at Kurama. "Even your ego isn't that big."

"It looks lovely on you," he said flatly. Then he glanced sidelong at the novelty balloons and grimaced. "I'll take that as a compliment; my ego's been deflated enough over the last few months anyway." He jerked his head in the direction of the massive cake, where the top tier was being cut into more palatable slices by an elf on a stepladder. "Might as well have some cake while you're here, I know A wouldn't let River hex it."

The cake had been fun to make; he was confident enough in his skills not to fuss over it or fret over the mound of decorations. "How many people do you think we can get in here?" Anyone who hadn't been close to him for years would have missed the very faint grin. "We could, we, maybe we should make sure some of the decorations show in the corridors. And there should be music."

Yes, to anyone who didn't know him, he was just being his earnest, thoughtful self, without the slightest hint of mischief.

"I didn't think of that," River said, grinning. "I bet if we hung signs around the halls we could bring more people. More is merry, after all."

At his seat, Kurama groaned and put his head in his hands. River's grin widened.

"And it wouldn't be a party," she concluded, "without music. I personally would like to see the birthday boy dance the Funky Chicken."

"We could write on balloons and send them floating through the school?" Kurama would pretend to hate it, which would only make River more cheerful. "I, I don't know what the funky chicken is, though." He looked at Kurama doubtfully, and felt a small surge of student loyalty. "It sounds more like something he would eat."

"Excellent idea," River said, going immediately to a clutch of balloons. Though, none of them were the amusingly shaped bachelorette ones. Those she wanted to keep here, where everyone could enjoy them at once. She asked an Elf for a marker, and grabbed a decent handful of balloon strings.

"I wouldn't put it past him to try biting were a funky chicken in range," River said, eternally cheerful now that Kurama was actively glaring at them.

Kaga rarely ventured outside of his room anymore. He felt it safest, for himself as well as the school.

However, he was not about to miss his dear friend's birthday, no sir.

He placed a hand over his mouth to try and hide his laughter at River's...decorations.

"Oh, don't you start," Kurama warned, coming over and nudging Kaga with an elbow. River, who was still marking balloons to try and lure in more guests, flashed Kaga a grin and a thumbs up before going back to her work.

"At least, don't start laughing until after you've had some of the cake." while the look on his face was one of staunch determination not to enjoy himself, the look in his eyes revealed that, despite all, he really was having a good time. And it was always better with friends.

"River's decorations are...amusing, to say the least," Kaga said, controlling his giggles. "And a happy birthday to you , Kurama."

"I really hate it when that kid gets creative, but as a teacher, I find I can't help but encourage it," he sighed, and patted Kaga on the shoulder. "Thank you. Now, with that aside, come and sit with me? I've missed you; come and tell me what you've been up to."

One of the house elves had been good enough to deliver a message to Bobby that Kurama was about to endure particularly amusing torment. So he arrived on time, a six pack in one hand, a bottle of good whiskey in the other. The paper party had merited a snort of amusement before he plunked down beside the put-upon fox.

"Interestin decorations they got set up for you. I can't tell if I should congratulate you," he waved a bottle in the direction of the 'it's a girl!' balloons. "Or offer a get well." The hunter smirked and offered him the bottle, "Or just a drink."

Kurama glared daggers at him and snatched a beer from its plastic holder, cracking it open and taking a long draught before answering. "I do everything I can, every fucking year, and still they get me. I don't understand it."

Bobby chuckled and cracked his own open, offering a brief salute. "It's family behind this. Gotta be. Only people you love are determined to embarass the holy hell out of us on days like that."

Lucky for him, Sam and Dean never got the same idea into their fool heads. So far

Kurama spared a glance towards River and A, then nodded slowly. "Ye-es, I suppose you could say that." After all, extended family was the same way. He sighed and drained the beer, twirling the can around on the table. "At least it really can't get much more embarrassing than this. And even better; it won't end up on youtube."
