Application for Zato-1 (Guilty Gear)

Dec 20, 2009 12:35

A man stood in the sorting room. Two things were noticeable immediately upon looking at him for the first time.

Firstly, he had a fighter’s physic, visible through his tight clothes and what could only loosely be termed as a ‘shirt’. Second, he was blind. Whether he actually was blind or chose to wear the odd red contraption covering his eyes ( Read more... )

Fuuka watched the entire exchange with mild fascination before pulling out her Evoker and summoning Juno.

Her eyes widened slightly as she saw that Eddie was very powerful, and while it was sort of similar to a Persona, he reminded Fuuka more of Aegis, a weapon created to fight Shadows. Fuuka thought this Eddie was something similar: a creature made specifically to fight something.

"Wouldn't it give away what you do if you named your bar that?" Fuuka asked, remaining inside Juno. Like I said, very powerful, and Fuuka wasn't taking any chances of it attacking her (since Juno likely has uber-defense like her predecessor Lucia).

Zato-1 tilted his head, turning it roughly in her direction. "People often underestimate the obvious," he said. He listened carefully, gauging where she was, all the small moves she made. "It would also make me easier to find."

Eddie stirred at his feet, attracted by the sense of a fighter he felt in Fuuka and the strange duality both Eddie and Zato-1 could feel in her.

"What if all it does is attract others like you that would want you out of the way?"

"I find nothing wrong with that, if they want to challenge me, then so be it, it's their funeral," he said, smiling a little. He seemed to have a lilt to his words, a Spanish accent most likely.

"Do you want me out of the way?" he asked, curious.

"Barney is a human in an obnoxious purple dinosaur costume guilty of being insanely popular with children and indoctrinating them with ridiculous songs that lack originality and claiming they are original," I say, crossing my arms over my chest. "He is a bane to the collective intelligence of this generation."

Zato turned his head in Mello's direction, a smile pulling at his lips. "Such nonsense is the making of weak adults," he said dryly. While he valued the lives of children, he'd saved Venom from an realy demise after all, he had no desire for their heads to be filled with such nonsense.

"Such nonsense makes for what passes as education to most," I say. "The gap between those who can and will better themselves and those who are content with the status quo is appalling." The status quo is appalling.

"What is Eddie?" I ask.

"Eddie is a symbiotic beast. I gave up my sight to gain him and in doing so, gaining his power. That of which is to control my shadow. Though he himself is sentient," Zato-1 obliged calmly.

Darkness swirled at his feet and soon there was a small dragon-like creature at his feet made of shadow. It waved at Mello, then grinned.

"You have no favorite cheese?" The Hat was shocked. Immediately it conjured up a deluxe cheese platter, overflowing with the cheeses of every European nation. Then it conjured up a baguette and began to wave the baguette at Zato-1 in friendly admonishment. "There, now you have no excuse! Taste-testing time!"

"Too hard to cut up," he said, pointing at his blindfold vaguely.

He hadn't heard any footsteps from the creatures appearance, and Eddie was being unhelpful, so he couldn't borrow his eyes. He sighed and reached for a plate blindly, then picked up the closest thing, placed it in his mouth.

Maybe if he did this the creature would go away.

"The blindfold makes the taste test more effective! All right, the one you just ate is ... cheese number 405~!"

Roquefort.

"Next up, cheese number 584!"

That was going to be Monterey Jack.

"The numbers are randomly assigned. You won't really have to eat five hundred and eighty-four cheeses," explained the Hat, taking pity.

Honestly, Zato-1 couldn't tell the difference between 405 and 584. Cheese was cheese to him. That and his body seemed to be dying already.

"I like 584," he said, voice an even, bored monotone.
