Application for Zato-1 (Guilty Gear)
A man stood in the sorting room. Two things were noticeable immediately upon looking at him for the first time.
Firstly, he had a fighter’s physic, visible through his tight clothes and what could only loosely be termed as a ‘shirt’. Second, he was blind. Whether he actually was blind or chose to wear the odd red contraption covering his eyes with a belt in order to make himself blind was open for interpretation.
He didn’t seem at all blind as he walked directly for the application.
Then his shadow seemed to separate from his body and arch above him to read the application. It seemed somewhat like a dragon, with crimson eyes and sharp teeth. It read the questions to the blind man.

“Eddie,” the shadow said, through the man’s mouth, though it seemed to echo a little oddly, despite the acoustics of the Sorting Room.
“Zato-1,” the man said, tilting his head up to Eddie a little. His mouth pulled down a little, frowning at the shadow which seemed to shrug and roll its eyes.
1. What is your favorite cheese? Why is it your favorite?
Zato-1 tilted his head a little, his long blond hair falling to cover half of his face. “I have no favourite. Just whatever I may find.”
2. Who would you kill first, Barney or Carrottop?
“Barney,” Eddie said, before Zato-1 could say anything on the matter. Zato-1 gritted his teeth but didn’t say anything further on Eddie’s misstep of using his body as if it was his right.
“Though I have no idea who this ‘Barney’ is,” Zato-1 added.
3. What time is it where you are?
Zato-1 tilted his head. “It was two AM last time I checked. There are no clocks in my room at the Guild’s headquarters. Not that they do me much good.”
Eddie chuckled.
4. If you were Albus Dumbledore returned from the dead, which member of the Order of the Phoenix would you sexually harass? How would you harass them? If you are Albus Dumbledore, please answer as if you were Sirius Black.
“This should be an question for you answer, Eddie,” Zato-1 said wryly. Usually they didn’t converse this much, but as Eddie was reading out the application to Zato-1, he felt it necessary to at least let the shadow have his fun and have time in the world doing something other than causing destruction. “All of them,” Eddie said in a pleased tone.
5. If you are pushing to be in: A. Slytherin - please state the clever, witty name of the bar in which you bartend, in the dark.
Blind jokes aside, Zato-1 thought a moment about this. “Assassins ,” he said, lamely. Zato-1 wasn’t known for his creativity, he was known for his fighting skills and sheer power. He crossed his arms over his chest and proceeded to look unimpressed as Eddie moved on to the next question.
B. Gryffindor - Debate whether Harry should ultimately end up married to Fred or George. Use examples from a variety of world mythologies to bolster your argument.
“Harry should marry George and have his fun with Fred too. Zeus never stuck to one woman, why should Harry have to choose between the two of them?” The Greeks also invented man-love, so Zato-1 thought it relevant to make the connection.
C. Ravenclaw - You guys are supposed to be smart. Explain why my desk is inundated with paperwork at all times, even though I’m constantly disposing of it.
Zato-1 raised an eyebrow. “Because you are the fool who chose to do the paperwork.” Zato-1 was a master at getting out of actual administration duties in his line of work. Even when he was the leader of his current ‘line of work’.
D. Hufflepuff - Prove you are not useless.
Zato-1 pointed up to Eddie wordlessly, and the shadow grinned.
6. Offer a bribe to the members of this community so that they will not squib you. Items used in bribery do not necessarily have to belong to the person offering the bribe. Do not threaten us rather than offering a bribe. A threat indicates you either don't really want to be here, or don't have enough sense to answer the question properly. The hat will automatically squib you, regardless of other votes, if you do.
“I am the leader of an Assassins Guild. I offer you our services, my services, should you need them, either now or in the future.” Eddie chuckled again, and then sunk back down into a normal, immaterial shadow at Zato-1’s feet, having read all the questions as Zato-1 had asked of him.
