So we went to Belvidere (and went fabric-shopping). There was a fashion show, and funnel cake, and I bought too much jewelry - oops? - and two bolts of silk for $40 - oops? Today I started sewing boning channels in my 1780 stays, then between the horrible warping of the fabric and the fact that there is no possible way to make all the boning channels look pretty, I decided that, rather than sew all the way through as I was SO DETERMINED TO DO, I will just put the boning channels in the canvas layers and put the outer ( Read more... )

I had hoped to make a much-yardage (180", to be precise) petticoat with ruffliness around the bottom in time to go to Belvidere, but the Fates (i.e. royally messed up transportation schedule for our weekly shipment and a roommate who goes to bed at like 9:30) intervened, and I only got as far as hemming both sides of the 'ruffle' (360") yesterday.  ( Read more... )
