So we went to Belvidere (and went fabric-shopping). There was a fashion show, and funnel cake, and I bought too much jewelry - oops? - and two bolts of silk for $40 - oops? I was a bit warm in my wool from time to time, but the weather was JUST this side of Not Way Too Hot. I did get a bit sweaty under my layers, but I wore a nice thick wool jacket to the ren faire two years ago in 80-ish degrees and was quite comfy, so I kept reminding myself of that. I also occasionally waved my hoops around to facilitate a breeze. Um...
Amanda kindly lent me a hat because I didn't have a suitable one for the occasion. The original sort-of-plan was to wear the spoon bonnet she made me for Gettysburg last November, but really the weather was too warm for a bonnet. Way too warm. Wool was pushing it; a bonnet would have crossed the line! ;) I bought a few delightful jewelry-things from Saturday's Child; I had to walk a few blocks to find an ATM because I hadn't brought enough cash, but it was worth it! The silk was totally worth it too; there were three bolts (that we found) of the same crossbarred silk, so three of us got a bolt each and we might or might not coordinate what we wear - either making sure we don't accidentally make the same thing, or intentionally do so, who knows! There was also a delightful blue and yellow stripe that told me it wanted to be an open robe, probably pulled up a la polonaise, so I listened to it and brought it home with me. I'm accomodating like that.
We managed, toward the end of our time there, to get a hapless passerby to take our picture - not of all of us, sadly, because we didn't think of it earlier - a picture which I have shamelessly yoinked from
mandie_rw.
So, stripped down to 1860s undies and some civvies, we raced to this mythical fabric store, found that not all of them actually had fiber contents on them and might not be silk (WOE), so didn't get as many as we might have. I claimed a share of a bolt of purply/reddish stripe that Amanda got; we'll decide what we want to make and split it up accordingly when the time comes, y' see. I also grabbed a pretty coral and green stripe. All these stripeys say 18th c. to me right now, but I'll see what they say when I'm NOT buried by 16th century. And here for your enjoyment is our first attempt at fitting all the silk in the car after this second stop. Needless to say we had to try again.
So now I really have to Buckle Down For Serious! Tonight I took out the few lines of stitching I'd put in my 1780 stays...? I guess that's something. I work early tomorrow, so unless I'm shattered (and I probably will be considering how late it is now) I should get SOMETHING done. I have some teensy silver paillettes, courtesy of Amanda, so I can plan the bespangling of my forepart, or sew boning channels into the canvas of my stays, or even cut out undersleeves! Wow! If even one of these things happens I will be very, very proud of myself. At least I ordered a Jane Seymour necklace tonight, which is one thing off my list. I also received my "Lioness" wig - take two, fyi - so I can start plotting Poofy 1780s Hair, as well.
Just have to get my butt in gear, is all.
"Just", I say.
Oh dear.
