Niamh sat in a secluded corner of the common room. She'd come down from her dormitory hoping for some company, but she was feeling particularly insecure, so she'd not attempted to speak to anyone. She'd merely rushed with her stack of books to this empty looking corner and settled in, looking busy, so no one would feel obligated to talk to her if they didn't feel like it.
She was feeling particularly homesick lately, though she didn't want to admit it. She wished Bradan was a wizard, too, so she'd at least have him to bother. She couldn't admit it in her letters home, of course. She was afraid Da would insist she come home and she'd worked so hard and so much depended on her doing well here.
She was also worried about the Defense test last week. She opened her textbook, first thing, and was busily trying to read ahead. She was desperate to do better, terrified that she might have actually failed her first test at Hogwarts.
